Executive Job Search Series -- Get Over It!

Job Search--Get Over It Image

I'm no psychologist, but I do talk with a lot of people who are down because they just lost their job. And the first thing I encourage them to do before starting their job search or speaking to future employers is to "GET OVER IT!"

That's right, before you can be in a position to get hired for your next best job, you must eliminate any negative feelings you have toward your last employer. You cannot carry this negativity (and anger) into your job hunting because it will sneak out at the most inopportune moment and spoil your chance of getting hired. So, take a few hours, days or weeks to vent your anger and wallow in your self-pity, then "get over it" and get back to being the "A Player" you are. Interested in HOW TO "get over it", keep reading!

I'm not sure if I had ever heard of positive affirmations prior to reading See You At The Top by Zig Ziglar, but after reading that book (way back in the 1980's) I began to practice some of the affirmations that Zig recommended. I don't remember all of that original affirmation, but I clearly remember "endowed with the seeds of greatness!" And I am confident that those early affirmations have contributed not only to my success, but have created an extra reserve of "hope" that carried me through both the man-made and self-inflicted challenges (including job losses) I have experienced in my 47+ years. Here's an extended version of Zig's affirmations: Download Zig Card

I would highly encourage reading these affirmations morning and night in front of the mirror. I did it and I can promise you it will make a difference in your attitude and helping you "get over it!" Additionally, here's a video that I think drives home the point of AFFIRMING and VALIDATING yourself. Enjoy the video (it's long, but at least watch the first minute)...
